NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans may have their eyes on DeAndre Hopkins, but it's the top wide receiver on their own roster that may be the key to the Titans' offense coming back to life in 2023. Treylon Burks need to take a leap in year two and Titans star safety Kevin Byard seems to think he's on his way to doing it.

Byard made his return to the Titans this week for mandatory minicamp and finally spoke with media on Thursday afternoon. Byard talked about a lot of different topics, but he was asked who on offense has impressed him early on. He mentioned Titans rookie running back Tyjae Spears, but spent some time discussing Burks growth.

"Treylon looks like a different beast this year for sure," Byard said. "I think he is just playing with a lot of confidence. I really like that from him. Taking that next step cause we are gonna need him to take that next step this year to be that guy."

Whether the Titans land Hopkins or not, Burks is going to have to be "that guy" for the Titans this year. Whether it is fair or not, the Titans traded away A.J. Brown and replaced him immediately with Burks, so he will be measured against Brown for the foreseeable future.

Even if Burks doesn't get to that level in year two, he still will need to massively improve upon his statistical output in his rookie season if the Titans hope to make it back to the playoffs. If Burks doesn't at least double his 33 catches, 444 yards and single touchdown, the Titans likely won't be in a position to win much anyways.

Byard has seen the best of the best in the NFL throughout his career. His recognition and praise for Burks shouldn't be taken lightly and the Titans have to hope NFL defenses are as impressed with Burks after the season.
