Meet Alonzo Davis, the Rookie UDFA DB Making Waves at Titans OTAs
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans finished a string of four weeks of summer practice on Wednesday and unlike we have seen in previous sessions open to the media, most of the Titans best players were not in attendance. This gave a major opportunity to younger players and one undrafted free agent was able to take advantage.
Alonzo Davis, also known as LJ, had a fantastic practice for the Titans in their final organized team activity before training camp. Davis had an interception on rookie quarterback Will Levis and had multiple pass breakups.
The Titans may have a crowded cornerback room right now on paper, but looking closer it is easy to see how a younger, lesser known player could sneak on the roster. The Titans top three seems set in stone with Kristian Fulton, Sean Murphy-Bunting and Roger McCreary, but after that there is uncertainty.
Elijah Molden is a name to bring up, but if he is truly focusing on transitioning to safety, that could open up a cornerback spot or at minimum, a spot in the secondary. Caleb Farley can't stay healthy and it is at least possible the Titans could part ways with the third-year disappointment.
From there, the only names we are familiar with are Tre Avery and Chris Jackson. Jackson is a practice squad-level player anyways, so really just Tre Avery remains as a incumbent threat on the back end of the depth chart.
If Davis continues to make plays on the ball, he could get a real shot at a roster spot. Davis has had good ball production in college as well. In 2022 for Northern Arizona, David recorded two interceptions and nine pass breakups. During the 2021 calendar year at his previous school, Southern Utah, Davis intercepted a pass and had nine pass breakups.
The Titans defense puts a focus on ball disruption. If Davis can continue showing those skills in training camp, he could make his way on to the 53-man roster and surprise everyone.
