NASHVILLE - On Tuesday, multiple reports shared that the National Football League held a conference call where recent issues of players being suspended for gambling and rules to help stop the rise among players potentially.

While gambling is not illegal for NFL players to participate in, the league is also trying to educate players on those rules better and ensure that each team is doing its part to ensure their players are aware of and following them.

Per NFL Insider Ian Rappaport, there are six rules that the league has in place and is adamant about enforcing.

  1. Don't bet on the NFL.
  2. Don't gamble at your team's facility, while traveling for a road game, or staying in a team hotel.
  3. Don't have someone bet for you.
  4. Don't share your team's 'inside information.'
  5. Don't enter a sportsbook during the NFL playing season.
  6. Don't play daily fantasy football.

None of those rules seem too broad or cumbersome and are not technically difficult to understand. So why has there been an increase in incidents of players involved in and being suspended for gambling?

Some on social media immediately suggested that it is the fault of the NFL for partnering with sportsbooks. While that could be a part, it seems as though there could be other unknown issues here.

Whatever the cause,  the NFL seems serious about cracking down on players who violate these rules pertaining to this issue. Teams are teaching their players these rules and are going to continue to do so now and throughout the coming season.

Titans head coach Mike Vrabel spoke about the issue and his team addressing this with his players during a recent OTA press conference.

As of now, this issue has not impacted the Titans, and Vrabel and his staff preaching compliance. Hopefully, they will avoid the fate of other players and teams around the league who are, or have dealt with, player suspension for violating these rules.
