Reports: Vrabel, Tennessee Titans Brass Will Meet Next Week To Discuss Future
NASHVILLE -- According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Titans leadership expects to meet with coach Mike Vrabel to discuss the team's direction, including his future as the team's coach.
The ESPN.com story also says "there are people around the league" who believe that Vrabel would be open to coaching another team, or that the Titans would be willing to trade Vrabel to another organization.
"Until there is further word that there will not be change, it is possible that there might be some with the Titans organization," Schefter reported on ESPN.com. "Meetings that likely will happen this week will help determine the direction that Vrabel and the Titans go, but the situation in Tennessee currently is not settled, according to sources."
The Titans (5-11) play the Jacksonville Jaguars in their season finale, noon CST at Nissan Stadium. This is the second consecutive losing season for the Titans, who made the playoffs three times and won two AFC South titles in Vrabel's first four seasons coaching the team.
Vrabel told reporters on Wednesday that he wants to remain in Nashville as the Titans coach.
"Of course, I want to be here. Be here as long as we can win. As long as we can do this thing, and it's been great," Vrabel told reporters. "But it also has been just frustrating this year. And nobody wants to be where we're at. You feel for the players. Having been in that situation, those guys are out there selling out, and you feel for them when you look out there on the field, and we're not winning, or it's pretty obvious."
Vrabel also addressed rumors of there being a disconnect with first-year general manager Ran Carthon.
"I'm excited to build this thing and to fix this thing and get it to where we want it to be to win championships with Ran and (assistant general manager) Chad (Brinker) and A-Rob (assistant general manager Anthony Robinson) and a coaching staff and everybody," Vrabel said. "I mean that's what our goal is. ... But no, the social media and where that is ... I can't focus on that."
