Tennessee Titans Add Former TE Luke Stocker to the Coaching Staff
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans coaching staff has seen a on of change this offseason with promotions, demotions, firings and additions. We learned about one more addition recently when Mike Vrabel appeared on the "Bussin' with the Boys" podcast hosted by former Titans players Taylor Lewan and Will Compton.
According to Mike Vrabel, ex-Titans tight end Luke Stocker was added to the staff. Paul Kuharksy has since confirmed that Stocker will be serving as a quality control coach on the staff and working with the tight ends.
Stocker spent two seasons of his 11-year career in Tennessee with the Titans. He played in 19 games, making 13 starts during that time in Nashville. He caught 16 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
Stocker also famously was unsuccessful on a fourth-down play near the goal line that not only drew the ire of some of the fans, but also brought a ton of heat down on then offensive coordinator and now Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. It was one of those plays Titans fans just won't forget.
Stocker will hope that his time spent coaching with then Titans is more successful, but he will have an excellent teacher at the position he will be coaching most often in Tony Dews. Dews took over the tight end coaching post this offseason after the staff was re-aligned as mentioned above.
Dews had previously been coaching the running backs, but was assigned to the tight ends so he could play a more vital role in the game planning elements of weekly preparation. All with the goal of accelerating Dews' career advancement.
To be considered in that way just shows Dews' acumen. Stocker will be coming in with a lot to learn and a good person to learn it from. Not to mention that Titans offensive coordinator Tim Kelly was a former tight end coach as well.
Stocker is the low man on the totem pole in the coaching world right now, but it will always be fun to see a former player as a Titans coach and if Stocker advances in the career, it will also be enjoyable seeing a former player rise up the coaching ranks.
