Titans Coach Mike Vrabel Talks Will Levis Starting Rest of Season: 'Something That Could be a Possibility'
The big question coming out of the Tennessee Titans win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday is who will be the starter going forward. Rookie quarterback Will Levis looked fantastic in his debut and is certainly the quarterback in 2024, so is it time for Ryan Tannehill to hit the pine?
That question can only be answered by head coach Mike Vrabel and if you have followed Vrabel's interaction with the media you would know he would never give the answer voluntarily. The only way to know is for both quarterbacks to be healthy.
That isn't the case right now. While the fanbase and media may be worried about the bigger picture, Vrabel is worried about getting a win on a short week on the road. He spoke about the quarterback situation heading into Thursday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"We'll see where Ryan is," Vrabel said. "Hadn't done anything here with him yet today. We'll see how he is. We probably would say that if Ryan can't go, we'll move forward with Will and we'll see where Ryan is. It is a short week, but also we'll have to see who is available to us at every position."
Last week, Vrabel would not even admit Levis was the starter, so for him to make that admission was a bit of surprise. What came next was a surprise as well. Vrabel was badgered for an answer to the bigger picture question of who will be the season-long starter when Tannehill is healthy.
While Vrabel didn't declare Levis the starter right now, his demeanor and words suggested it could be something the Titans do consider when the time comes.
"Until Ryan's healthy I don't think that I am ready to make a determination," Vrabel explained before making one more admission. "I think that is something that could be a possibility, but again we're talking about hypotheticals. We'll get Ryan healthy and see where things are at then."
Vrabel won't make that decision until he is forced to. Even then he probably still won't announce it publicly, but regardless of all that, Vrabel admitting Levis could take the reigns even with a healthy Tannehill is certainly saying something.
