Derrick Henry's Dominance of the Indianapolis Colts Must Continue in Week 5
The Tennessee Titans have played the Indianapolis Colts 14 times since Derrick Henry came into the NFL and their next matchup lies ahead on Sunday. If the Titans are to win their first game on the road all season, they will need Henry to continue to do to the Colts what he has always done — dominate.
In those 14 games, Henry has gone for over 100 rushing yards seven times. That's the most 100-yard rushing games by one player against a single opponent since 2010 and Henry wasn't drafted until 2016. Pretty impressive dominance.
Not only that, but in his career against Indy, Henry averages 5.1 yards per carry, has over 1,400 total yards and has scored seven touchdowns. Henry has even gone over 125 rushing yards four times. Multiple huge performances.
Those numbers include Henry's two matchups against the Colts his rookie season where he saw only one carry for three total yards. Since Henry has been consistently in the lineup, he's consistently run on Indianapolis.
The one issue you could find is, Henry's performances haven't always resulted in wins. Henry is only 8-6 against the Colts, but on the bright side, the Titans have won six of the last seven matchups. Which matches up with Henry's true reign as the top back in Nashville.
Henry got loose for the first time in 2023 in Week 4 against the Cincinnati Bengals, rushing for 122 yards and a touchdown while adding a passing touchdown. It was a great sign for the Titans who need Henry's explosive runs to operate on offense.
If the Titans want to continue they five-game winning streak against the Colts, they will need Henry to repeat his performance from last week and let that run of dominance he's had over Indianapolis continue. He should have a great chance.
Through four weeks, the Colts have allowed 126.8 rushing yards a game. That's in the bottom ten teams in the NFL. That number could be deceiving though. In the first two weeks of the season, the Colts allowed only 157 rushing yards total.
In the past two weeks though, against the Baltimore Ravens and then the Los Angeles Rams, the Colts allowed 350 rushing yards total. The Titans will be ready to test who the Colts run defense really is, and Derrick Henry is looking to remind them nothing has changed.
