What They're Saying About New Tennessee Titans Coach Brian Callahan
The Tennessee Titans have reportedly found their next coach. News broke Monday night that the franchise was finalizing a deal to bring the Cincinnati Bengals' offensive coordinator Brian Callahan to Nashville.
This will be Callahan's first opportunity as a head coach in the NFL, but he certainly doesn't lack experience. At 39, he's already worked with some of the most prominent quarterbacks in the league, including Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, Derek Carr, and Joe Burrow.
Callahan replaces former coach Mike Vrabel.
Because of his success with quarterbacks and on the offensive side, the Titans are hoping he can replicate that level of production.
Callahan has received several reviews from folks close to the NFL. Here's what some are saying about Tennessee's new coach:
Gary Kubiak, Former NFL Coach
" When I took over for John Fox, Peyton Manning came beating on my door telling me I had to keep Callahan." (via 102.5 The Game in Nashville)
Peyton Manning, Hall of Fame quarterback
"He’s got fire in him, and at the same time, Cally is in control. It’s the perfect mix. He’s got a great demeanor for a quarterbacks coach, offensive coordinator or head coach in my opinion.” (via The Athletic in 2022)
"Extremely hard working, extremely intelligent and just overall a great person. So very happy for him getting this opportunity." (via Titans.com in 2023)
Adam Schefter, ESPN
"A list of some of the QBs that Brian Callahan has worked with: Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, Derek Carr, Joe Burrow.
"Some of the head coaches Brian Callahan has worked under: John Fox, Gary Kubiak, Jim Caldwell, Jon Gruden, Zac Taylor."
Ian Rapoport, NFL Network
"Obviously, the work that he's done with Joe Burrow has certainly been noted. But it's not just that. The fact that he got Jake Browning this year to play as well as he did certainly played into it.
"What you wanna do if you're the head coach and surely the de facto offensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans is make sure that Will Levis plays at the highest level possible. This is one of the better quarterback tutors in the game."
Paul Dehner Jr., The Athletic
"Can confirm Titans finalizing deal with Bengals OC Brian Callahan. Titans saw him as top target for a while and proved it by assuring he didn't leave the building today.
"A long overdue HC shot for Callahan, who has been with Zac Taylor every step of the way on this rebuild."
Clay Travis, OutKick
"The Titans have reportedly hired Bengals OC Brian Callahan. His success or failure as a head coach will be based on whether Will Levis is a good quarterback or not.
"That’s it: His entire job is to make Levis good. If he does, he’s here a while, if he doesn’t, he gets fired."
