Titans Hire Lori Locust as Franchise’s First Full-Time Female Defensive Assistant
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans are hiring Lori Locust as a defensive assistant, Locust announced on Twitter on Saturday. Locust, who becomes the first full-time female coach in Titans' history, most recently spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a defensive line assistant over the last four seasons and was part of the Bucs' Super Bowl run in 2020.
"Blessed to be joining the Titans staff as part of coach (Mike) Vrabel's staff, Locust said via Twitter, "can't wait to get started on this next phase of my coaching career."
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport was first to report Locust's hire and added that, "Coach Lo impressed coach Mike Vrabel, as well as new GM Ran Carthon, in the interview process."
Locust joins a defensive staff that includes two other defensive assistants in Clinton McMillian and Jim Schwartz, and likely will work closely with one of the NFL's more talented defenses that includes Jeffery Simmons, Denico Autry, Kevin Byard, Amani Hooker and others.
Additionally, Locust originally got her start in the NFL as an intern for the Baltimore Ravens in 2018. She was then hired by Tampa Bay, where she became just the third female full-time assistant coach in NFL history and was with the team from 2019-2022.
While Locust's role hasn't been announced just yet, her Twitter bio mentions that she be a quality control coach for Tennessee. Titans' reporter Paul Kuharsky did say that Locust is expected to work with Ryan Crow, the team's outside linebackers coach.
