NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans kicked off week two of free agency with the signing of defensive back Sean Murphy-Bunting after making a slew of moves during the first week. While the Titans have made a number of additions, there are still spots on the roster that need reinforcements before the Titans get to the NFL Draft in April.

We’ve seen the Titans make signings on the offensive line, in the defensive front seven and now, at cornerback. Three spots that certainly need help, but they are not alone. The Titans will try to address all areas of need prior to the draft so that they do not feel forced to draft one specific position or need. With that in mind, let’s take a look at what positions we should still see a signing at soon.

Running Back

There have been Derrick Henry trade rumors swirling for weeks, but even if the Titans don’t eventually move the all-pro back, they will need an addition at running back due to Henry’s limited skillset. Henry may have set career highs as a receiver in 2022, but he still can’t consistently be a third-down back. His hands, route running and pass blocking have required the Titans have a complimentary back since he became the starter. That need will continue. The Titans could choose to add a third-down back in the draft, but it would be risky to wait.

Wide Receiver

The Titans are playing with fire at wide receiver. The only addition made so far was bringing back Nick Westbrook-Ikhine on a one-year deal. The Titans’ current starting group is Treylon Burks, Westbrook-Ikhine and Kyle Philips. To put it lightly, that is one of the bottom-five groups in the NFL as it stands. Even if the Titans add a highly draft rookie, the group is concerning. Adding a mid-tier veteran to this group may not elevate it to tops in the NFL, but it would at least give it some respectability. A receiver with true deep speed would be most helpful.

Tight End

Titans’ fans weren’t excited when 2022 tight end Geoff Swaim went out on the field. There were cries all season to get more opportunities for Chig Okonkwo or Austin Hooper. While those suggestions were justified, the reality is a tight end like Swaim will be necessary. The Titans need a traditional blocking tight end, but the hope has to be they can find someone who can serve that role that also is not a complete non-factor in the passing game. Tight ends who can do both are rarely cheap, but there are some bargain options. It is considered a great class of tight ends in this year’s draft so expect the Titans to strike there, but adding a veteran who can be a depth piece would be wise.

Safety

The safety position will be an interesting one to watch. Of course, we have the Kevin Byard drama going on, so if the Titans do make a silly mistake and part ways with their team captain, they will certainly need to add a veteran safety. Even if they don’t make that mistake though, we always see the Titans add a player who can be a depth piece and, most importantly, play special teams. Amani Hooker has dealt with injuries that caused him to miss games the last two seasons. Having a third safety the Titans feel comfortable having start games is important.
