NASHVILLE - There was much to dislike about the Tennessee Titans offense following the 2022 season, and there is still a lot of work to be done before the start of the 2023 season.

Perhaps the biggest change made during the offseason was firing former coordinator Todd Downing and introducing Tim Kelly to replace him. It's not a secret that under Downing, the offense slowed to a crawl last season, but in defense of Downing, injuries definitely impacted what he was able to do. But then again, the offense issues began to grow before last season.

Entering the 2023 campaign, one of Kelly's changes on the field is a new, faster pace with which this offense will operate.

"We want to make sure that we're as efficient in whatever you want to call it. Tempo, playing fast, or whatever it may be," said Kelly during the recent OTAs. "We want to make sure we're efficient. Efficient in how I communicate with the quarterback, efficient in how the quarterbacks communicate the line of scrimmage, and really try to take as much thinking out as possible."

"We want our guys to be able to go up there and play fast," continued Kelly. "I think all that started with the really the communications portion of it."

As for quarterback Ruan Tannehill, he is a fan of the faster pace.

"I love it. I have always liked getting on the ball, but there's some really good things you are able to do in the huddle as well," said Tannehill. "Just being able to be multiple in that, and not being stuck in one way – being able to jump in and out of it, different personnels, different tempos, all of those things can help put pressure on the defense.

"Everybody is learning something new. There's a little more growing pains, only being (six) practices into a new offense. It is not something that is going to happen overnight. It's going to be go into training camp as well," continued Tannehill. "We just want to limit that, shorten that as much as we can, all get on the same page and keep pushing ourselves forward."

Tannehill and the rest of his offense will have more opportunities to improve this week during their minicamp practices.
