Titans Quarterback Will Levis on Podcast: Fan of Calvin Ridley, Excited to Learn from Callahan
INDIANAPOLIS — Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis, speaking on a podcast this week, shared remorse for the dismissal of former coach Mike Vrabel and excitement for what's to come with Brian Callahan.
Levis, appearing on RG3 and The Ones, a show hosted by former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Robert Griffin Jr., talked about growing up in Connecticut as a huge New England Patriots fan. Vrabel was one of his favorite players.
"It was so cool for me to play for a guy I looked up to as a kid," Levis said. "I will always have love for Vrabes, and I wish him the best. One of the things I learned from him was to be myself and be a guy that people wanted to be around. He was that way as a player, and he taught me a lot as a coach."
The Titans need good receivers, and Levis expressed his interest in Jacksonville Jaguars free agent Calvin Ridley.
The Titans' new offensive coordinator, Nick Holz, was a part of the Jags' staff last season. Levis believes the familiarity could work in the Titans' favor in convincing Ridley to join their team.
“Yeah, he’s definitely an awesome player. I got to see first-hand him torch us a couple of times," Levis said. "It would be cool to have someone of his caliber out there playing. I’m sure he’s comfortable with Holz."
In each game against the Titans last season, Ridley had more than 100 yards receiving, plus three touchdowns.
"It would be cool to definitely play with him and, who knows, maybe link up in the offseason, get some balls in the air and see what we can make happen. But it’s not my decision. I don’t really have any pull."
In his nine starts last year, Levis threw for 1,808 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions. He completed 58.4 percent of his passes and had a passer rating of 84.2. He is excited to see the offense unfold with Callahan.
"I’m looking forward to getting the ball in the air more," Levis said. "I’m looking forward to throwing more on earlier downs. I’m looking forward to really learning to master the pass game because he’s been able to do that and teach it and see so many guys do it. I’m really hoping I can be another one of those guys for him. I know I have what it takes. I just got to put the pieces together.”
