INDIANAPOLIS — The Tennessee Titans rank 18th, or around the league average, for player working conditions, according to an annual survey conducted by the National Football League Players Association.

The NFLPA collected responses from 1,706 players who graded their teams on 11 categories, which are listed here with the Titans' grades:

  • Treatment of families D+
  • Food/cafeteria B
  • Nutritionist/dietician B
  • Locker room C+
  • Training room C+
  • Training staff B
  • Weight room B+
  • Strength coaches B+
  • Team travel F
  • Head coach B+
  • Ownership B+

Definitions of each category are here.

"The Titans don't excel in any of the areas within the survey," the NFLPA said, "as they sit right around the league average in every category." The Titans also ranked 18th after the 2022 season.

Two issues stood out with Tennessee and require improvement, the NFLPA said.

Team Travel received an F grade. "Players are designated to sit in the back of the plane where many players don't fit in the seats, while the staff sit in first class," the report said. The Titans also are one of only seven NFL teams to make players share hotel rooms.

Second, Titans players were unhappy with the switch from natural grass to synthetic field turf at Nissan Stadium for the 2023 season.

"Consistent with how players responded across the NFL on the question of field surfaces (92% saying they prefer natural grass to synthetic), Titans players responded with disappointment that they moved from grass to artificial," The survey said.

The Titans received their highest grade of B+ in four categories: ownership, head coach, strength coaches, and weight room.

Players anonymously took the survey between Aug. 28 and Nov. 14, 2023, before the Titans fired former coach Mike Vrabel. This report is not a reflection on Brian Callahan and his staff.

Treatment of families received a D+ grade, ranking 17th in the league. The Titans do not provide a family room on game days but do provide daycare.
