The Titans Stat That Hits The Heart Of The Receiver Matter

NASHVILLE - When it comes to the potential weaknesses of the Tennessee Titans entering the 2023 season, wide receiver is at the top of the list. Multiple publications have ranked this unit the worst in the NFL this season.

A closer look at the individual statistics of this current group of wideouts leaves much to be desired in terms of production, especially when it comes to the most important numbers in football, touchdowns.

New free agent receiver Chris Moore has eight touchdown receptions in his six seasons in the league. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, seven, and Treylon Burks, one. None of their other receivers has tallied a score.

That's a total of 16 touchdowns for the entire group. As a running back, Derrick Henry has three career touchdown receptions, and Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, a linebacker during his playing days, collected ten touchdown receptions during his career.

Then there is former Titans receiver AJ Brown, who collected 11 touchdowns on 88 receptions last season. While there's no guarantee that he would have had that same number had he remained in Nashville, the point is that he was capable of surpassing any current receiver on this roster's career total in a single season.

Of course, it is entirely possible that this unit exceeds all expectations and becomes a strength as opposed to a liability, but that remains to be seen.

The fact is that this unproven group will likely be better than most predict, but they will not be in the upper portion of the league at the season's end.

There could be other receivers added to this roster between now and the season opener in New Orleans. Still, the most important stat a receiver can have, scoring touchdowns, is lacking with this group, and that's a scary proposition entering this season.
