Tennessee Titans See Third Departure of the Day as DeMarcus Walker Heads to Chicago
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans saw more players leave than they added on the first day of free agency. Out of the three players who departed, two of them ended up on the Chicago Bears. The latest Titan-turned-Bear is defensive lineman DeMarcus Walker. Walker joins the Bears on a three-year deal worth over $7 million per season.
Walker had a career year with the Titans in 2022. His production exploded during his year in Nashville. Walker put up career bests across the board with 32 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, seven sacks and 16 quarterback hits. Walker played all 17 games for the first in his career and got six starts in Tennessee.
The marriage between Walker and the Titans only lasted a year though as Walker is now headed off to play in the Windy City for the Bears. The Titans will be left with a hole on the defensive line. Walker played 426 snaps for the Titans’ defense at multiple positions in the front seven.
The Titans lost guard Nate Davis earlier in the day when he went to the Chicago Bears. That was followed up by the loss of linebacker David Long who will be joining the Miami Dolphins. Along with Walker, these three losses create immediate needs on the Titans roster and without having much quality depth on the team, there is no one ready replace each of them.
This leaves the Titans with a tough job going forward in free agency. They were able to sign offensive lineman Andre Dillard, but his contract will cut into the limited cap space they had to start. With only six draft picks to go along with limited cap room, the Titans will have a tough task to fill the three holes created on day one of free agency, not to mention the holes that exist before.
