EAGAN, Minn. — The Tennessee Titans got good news on Wednesday night in the form of an injury update on Treylon Burks. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Burks suffered a sprained LCL and it should not be a season-ending injury.

According to the report, Burks should return in "a few weeks" which would put him right in line to be ready for the start of the regular season. It may be a bit optimistic to expect Burks back for Week 1, but it is at least a possibility now.

The day started with excitement for the Tennessee Titans as they began their week in Minnesota practicing with the Vikings, but it quickly turned to concern. Second-year receiver Treylon Burks, who is expected to have a major role in 2023, was injured on a catch in practice and needed to be carted off the field.

According to AllTitans.com publisher Tom Brew, who was at the workouts, Burks was hurt on a deep touchdown pass when he landed awkwardly and came up limping. Burks was then consoled by teammates and carted off the field. Burks looked to be holding his lower left leg.

The extent of Burks' injury isn't known at this time. Titans coach Mike Vrabel spoke to the media before practice, and afterward only Byard and quarterback Ryan Tannehill were made available.

Titans media relations director Robbie Bohren said no update would be released by the Titans on Wednesday. The two teams practice again on Thursday at Noon ET.

"Obviously it's very concerning,'' Titans safety Kevin Byard said. "We don't know the severity of it, and nothing is confirmed yet. I heard about it kind of with the special teams and I'm praying for him and hopefully everything is going well.  He's a big part of what we do as an offense and what we do as a team, so you want everything to be OK.

"Vrabs doesn't speak too much about injuries and I didn't ask him about it. Hopefully we'll get back to the hotel and hear some good news.''

Hopefully for Burks, the injury is minor, but a major injury cannot be ruled out. If Burks is out for any extended time, it would be a near-fatal blow to the Titans' offense. Burks, a first-round pick out of Arkansas a year ago, was expected to take a major leap in his second year and be a top playmaker.

With the nature of the Titans' run-first offense and the need for two explosive receivers to make it work, the Titans would be in a terrible spot without Burks to line up across from big free agent signee DeAndre Hopkins.

Without Burks, Hopkins can receive even more attention from defenses with no penalty. The Titans do not have a receiver after Burks and Hopkins who can threaten the field vertically or has proven any ability to do so. Receivers like Chris Moore, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and others will have to step up.

"I just went over and checked on him. You hate seeing that,'' Tannehill said. "We'll find out more information and see what's going on. Hopefully he'll be alright. He seemed upset, and understandably so. Thoughts and prayers are with him right now and hopefully it's not too bad.
