Titans Film Room: Will Levis Impressed, But There is Room for Improvement

The NFL world is ablaze right now after the excellent performance of Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Will Levis. While the excitement should be high, looking at the tape it is clear that Levis still has areas of improvement.

The Tennessee Titans may have found something in rookie quarterback Will Levis and his praises are being sung after a historic debut with four passing touchdowns. I am not here to tell you not to be excited, but if we could stop the parade for one moment, it's only fair if we talk about what didn't look so good as well.

Levis has an incredible arm. He has velocity and distance to go with a lightning-quick release, but sometimes he can have too much confidence in his arm and it can lead to poor decisions. We saw that on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

There were quite a few plays where Levis took a risk downfield rather than playing it safe. Now, that doesn't have to be a bad thing. Defaulting to taking a chance downfield with that arm talent makes sense. Situation is key though.

We see a couple of passes where Levis could've gotten more yards or kept a drive going by making the simpler decision. It's an old coaching adage that you'd rather have calm a player down then have to prod them to be more intense. Levis' intensity and aggressiveness is a good thing, but he still needs to be smart.

We also see a few balls that are just not on target. One of them turned into a touchdown, so it isn't required to be perfect, but it could still improve. Hopkins second score, a third-down conversion to Chig Okonkwo, both plays are successful technically, but Levis was off target.

The truth is though, this is a rookie quarterback making his first start ever. It is hard to come away with a critical assessment, but we can't ignore certain things. Levis has time to improve and build upon his strengths. At least now we know what to be looking for.
