Titans QB Will Levis Suffers Ankle Injury 'Similar' to Tannehill's Last Season According to Mike Vrabel
The Tennessee Titans loss to the Houston Texans was devastating for multiple reasons, but maybe the biggest concern of all was the injury to rookie quarterback Will Levis. According to head coach Mike Vrabel, Levis suffered an ankle injury on Sunday.
Vrabel compared the ankle injury Levis suffered to the one Ryan Tannehill dealt with in 2022.
"I think the mechanism is the same. It's similar. Those are things that make it difficult and those are things that come up as you're getting tackled or in a pile or anything like that. Same thing he has been dealing with."
As Vrabel explained, Levis had been dealing with the ankle issue prior to Sunday's game and clearly it was aggravated with the brutal hit Levis took against the Texans. Comparing it to Tannehill's ankle issues from last season should make Titans fans shudder.
Tannehill missed five games last year including a two-game stretch after the initial injury and then the final three games of the season after a reaggravation against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15, coincidentally. Tannehill required surgery on the ankle and it led him to losing his job this season as well.
If Vrabel is right, Levis' injury could knock him out the rest of the season. The Titans are now officially out of the playoffs as well. One would think that would factor into the decision of whether to play Levis again or not, but Vrabel isn't so sure.
"I don't think that necessarily weighs into the decision right now," Vrabel said. "We want to make sure that, one, he can protect himself, that he can do his job up to the expectations that we have. Really the most important thing is that any player can protect themselves out there during a game. It's Monday right now. He's sore like a lot of guys. We'll see how things go."
If Levis can't play, the Titans could go back to Ryan Tannehill and let him audition for his next opportunity, or they could choose to use the time to develop young quarterback Malik Willis. Perhaps Willis can become a suitable backup or become a potential trade asset.
