Tennessee Titans Will Not Wear Houston Oilers Throwback Jersey in Houston in 2023

The Tennessee Titans will not be wearing their Houston Oiler throwback jerseys in Houston this season according to a recent mailbag answer from Titans' team writer Jim Wyatt.

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have one of the best throwback jerseys in the NFL. Their throwback Houston Oiler jerseys remain as popular as ever and the demand for them is as high as ever. The Titans have been teasing the return of the Oiler throwbacks this summer, but you shouldn't expect to see them in their birthplace of Houston, Texas this season.

Titans' team writer Jim Wyatt ended that hope with a recent answer he gave in one of his mailbag columns. Wyatt responded to a question about the throwback jerseys and gave quite a few updates.

"The team is not going to wear the Oilers throwbacks in Houston, at least not this year. And, after previously thinking the Titans could wear them once on the road this year, I'm not expecting that any longer. It doesn't sound like that's going to work out as initially hoped."

Wyatt didn't dive into the reasons why the Titans' jersey plans have changed, but either way fans can brace for disappointment now if they expected to see the jerseys routinely in 2023. It sounds like something we will see rarely and only at home.

This may have to do with something coming down from the NFL directly or it may just be a decision made by the time. The reasoning likely wont be announced publicly, but we should still expect a public announcement and reveal of the jerseys soon.

The Titans teased the release and reveal of the Oiler throwbacks on twitter recently with a date of July 23.

Maybe we get more information on exactly when and where the Titans plan to use the jerseys, but we at least know we should not expect to see them in Houston and should prepare for not seeing them on the road at all, no matter how disappointing that may be.
