Titans Complete Coaching Interview With Former Stanford HC David Shaw
NASHVILLE— Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk and general manager Ran Carthon spent part of their Saturday taking another step in replacing former coach Mike Vrabel.
Former Stanford coach David Shaw spent part of his Sunday in Nashville interviewing for the Titans coaching opening.
Shaw interviewed in person, as he wasn't currently coaching. He was the only candidate to visit the facility for a first-round interview, as the others were employed by NFL teams and had to interview virtually until Jan. 22.
During his 12 seasons at Stanford, Shaw led the team to a 96-54 record, three Pac-12 Conference titles in four championship game appearances, and two Rose Bowl wins in three appearances.
On Thursday, Shaw interviewed for the Los Angeles Chargers, and last season, he interviewed for the Denver Broncos job that eventually went to Sean Payton. He has NFL coaching experience as an assistant with the Ravens, Raiders, and Eagles.
Shaw is one of 10 current and former NFL assistants expected to compete for the Titans' coaching job. Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce, Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Detriot Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, and Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown have had their first interviews.
Pierce will reportedly become the Raiders coach, which removes him from the mix. There is still a request for Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to interview.
Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan is scheduled for a follow-up, in-person interview next week.
