Titans Have Not Received Trade Calls for Derrick Henry per GM Ran Carthon
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have made a ton of changes this offseason all the way from the general manager to the equipment manager. That makes it easy to believe rumors that have persisted throughout the offseason about a potential Derrick Henry trade, but new Titans’ general manager Ran Carthon spoke at a press conference on Monday and advised the team has not received trade calls for Derrick Henry.
Carthon was asked if the team had been called with a Henry trade offer and his answer was a simple, “No.”
The skeptical response would be to question whether the Titans were the ones making trade calls to teams with Henry in mind, but it may be prudent to be less skeptical in this circumstance. Carthon seems to be implying the team is not looking to trade Henry regardless of who picked up the phone. He even told a joke about being at an event and a fan telling him not to trade Henry. A story he may not have told if he thought he would eventually be trading Henry in the coming days.
Carthon also joked about how the rumors can be off base and referenced the contract situation with Jeffery Simmons.
“We were also apparently trading Jeffery Simmons at one point,” Carthon explained, “and during that entire period we were negotiating his deal.”
Carthon was also asked about Ryan Tannehill and Kevin Byard. He explained that he had a conversation with Tannehill back in February and advised that “Ryan knows where he stands with us, and that’s all that matter to me.” Then Carthon later said that he has had similar conversations with Henry and Byard.
While the pre-draft rumor mill can be a wild place, at least for the time being, Titans fans can rest assured that Derrick Henry doesn’t look to be trade in the near future. Another example that random twitter accounts and offseason whispers can’t always be trusted.
