Titans Hire Tyke Tolbert As Wide Receivers Coach
NASHVILLE — Another day, another coaching hire for the Tennessee Titans.
Brian Callahan has hired Tyke Tolbert as wide receivers coach, a source confirmed to AllTitans.com.
After spending the past two seasons as the Chicago Bears' receivers coach and passing game coordinator, Tolbert joins new coach Brian Callahan's first staff with the Titans.
Tolbert is Callahan's second hire this week. On Wednesday, Callahan hired Dennard Wilson, who coached defensive backs with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, as the Titans' defensive coordinator.
With the Titans, Tolbert will have some work to do. As a team, Tennessee's passing offense ranked in the bottom third of the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus. Veteran wideout DeAndre Hopkins, a three-time All-Pro during his career, had 75 receptions. No other wide receiver had more than 28.
After offensive tackle, the wide receiver position is a high-priority need that the Titans might address in free agency and/or the NFL Draft.
Tolbert, who is 56, has a 20-year track record of working with top-flight NFL receivers. Anquan Boldin, Lee Evans, and Demaryius Thomas all thrived while working with Tolbert. D.J. Moore had his best season for the Bears this year with Wilson as his position coach.
From 2011 to 2016, when Callahan worked as an offensive quality control coach and assistant with the Denver Broncos, Tolbert was receivers coach.
During the Super Bowl run in 2015, the Broncos had two 1,000-yard receivers in Thomas (105 catches, 1,304 yards) and Emmanuel Sanders (76 catches, 1,135 yards).
Tolbert began coaching receivers in 2003 with the Arizona Cardinals. Besides the Broncos and Bears, Tolbert also has coached with the Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, and New York Giants.
