Titans Jeffery Simmons Not Interested in Rebuilding, 'I'm Looking Forward to Winning'

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans path forward has been a much-debated topic throughout the offseason with defenders on both sides of an argument that included tanking on one side and a competitive push on the other. While there is logic to both viewpoints, it is obvious what sides of the line Titans defensive star Jeffery Simmons is on.

Simmons made an appearance on NFL Network's NFL Total Access and spoke about a multitude of topics. Simmons spoke about his recruitment efforts of free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, but he spent most of his time talking about how he views this season for the Titans. Simmons explained his disregard for tanking and his true motivations.
"I don't look it as we're rebuilding," Simmons said. "I like to win. I'm not looking to go and lose any games just because we're all of a sudden rebuilding. I think what we're doing right now … we're trying to build something here in Tennessee, and that's the winning culture. We're trying to build a winning culture and our foundation of it, the way we want to play. Of course, the guys who've been around, they kinda knew what we expect here in Tennessee, but mainly the new guys that (are) coming in -- I felt like we had some great signings -- them guys have bought in already to what we expect here in Tennessee and the way coach (Mike) Vrabel want us to play here in Tennessee."
If you are Simmons, it makes sense to have zero interest in rebuilding a team when you just signed a monster contract. Simmons is a fierce competitor and wouldn't have signed on with a team that isn't focused on winning at all costs. Simmons makes a great point about culture. "Rebuilding" or "Tanking" could have ramifications on the culture in the building and that is something Simmons is aware of.
Simmons got a taste of what losing was like last season when the Titans finished the year with seven straight losses and it doesn't sounds like that's something he will go back to voluntarily.
"I don't look at it as a rebuilding. I look at it as another opportunity to come back this year to finish our season off the way it was supposed to have been last year," Simmons explained. "The way we finished last year wasn't what we wanted it to be. We didn't finish the way I wanted it to be, especially being the leader and captain. That's not who we are in Tennessee.
"I'm looking forward to this season. I'm not looking forward to no rebuild season. I'm looking forward to winning."
