Titans Poach Special Teams Coach Anthony Levine from Baltimore Ravens
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans continue making additions during free agency, but this time it is to Mike Vrabel’s coaching staff not the roster of players. According to a report from Jeff Zrebiec of the The Athletic, the Titans are adding Anthony Levine as an assistant special teams coach to work under special teams coach Craig Aukerman.
Levine had been with the Ravens organization since 2011 whether as a coach or a player. The majority of that time was as a player. Levine played defensive back for the Ravens from 2011-2021, but in what is hardly a surprise, Levine spent most of his time as a special teams player. Levine played 1,070 defensive snaps in his career, but that is far less than the 3,120 special teams snaps he played.
Levine spent the 2022 season as a scout and a coaching assistant for the Ravens. The Titans will offer him an opportunity to be directly involved with a specific unit. This should give Levine a chance to show what he can do as a coach only and give him a chance to use the results as a way to climb higher in his career.
There is also the potential that Vrabel is grooming Levine to take over as the top special teams coach for the Titans. The Titans’ special teams units have been mostly average or below during Aukerman’s run. Despite a 90.4 special teams grade from Pro Football Focus in 2022 that was ranked third-highest in the NFL, the Titans special teams unit hasn’t graded in the top ten at any other time in Vrabel’s tenure.
Vrabel has now made a ton of outside additions to his staff this offseason. Chris Harris was brought over from the Washington Commanders, Charles London was brought over from the Atlanta Falcons and Justin Outten was added from the Denver Broncos to name a few. Vrabel has revamped his staff in the biggest way since he took the Titans’ job in 2018 and it will be interesting to see how the new group performs.
