Wednesday's injury report: Wait and see with Wake
Cameron Wake’s playing time has been a regular topic of conversation throughout the Tennessee Titans’ first four games.
His availability will be the issue for the fifth, Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
Wake, one of the Titans’ leaders in sacks, did not practice Wednesday due to a hamstring injury sustained last Sunday at Atlanta.
The outside linebacker was one of three Tennessee players who did not participate in the first practice session for the Bills. For the second week in a row, tight end Delanie Walker sat out Wednesday’s workout.
On a positive note, offensive lineman Kevin Pamphile was a limited participant. That is an upgrade for the versatile backup, who missed the first four games of the season and did not practice at all last week due to a knee injury sustained days before the season opener.
Wednesday’s injury report for Sunday’s Titans-Bills game:
TENNESSEE
Did not practice: Cameron Wake, OLB (hamstring); Delanie Walker, TE (knee) and David Fluellen, RB (hamstring).
Limited participation: Daren Bates, LB (ankle); Kevin Pamphile, OL (knee) and Kenny Vaccaro (quad).
BUFFALO
Did not practice: Pat DiMarco, FB (concussion); Tyler Kroft, TE (ankle); Ty Nskehe, T (ankle) and Corey Thompson, LB (ankle).
Limited participation: Josh Allen, QB (concussion); Taron Johnson, CB (hamstring); Dean Marlowe, S (concussion) and Devin Singletary, RB (hamstring).
Full participation: Cole Beasley, WR (ankle); Robert Foster, WR (groin); Spencer Long, G (ankle) and Tre’Davious White, CB (ankle).
Wake’s injury limited him to 26 snaps against the Falcons (one-third of the defense’s total) despite the fact that Atlanta attempted close to 60 passes.
Coaches have managed the 37-year-old’s playing time in his first season with Tennessee as a concession to his age. He became the 33 player to record 100 career sacks in Week 1 against Cleveland, a game in which he played 23 out of 71 snaps. He logged a total of 30 snaps in losses to Indianapolis and Jacksonville that followed.
His two and a half sacks are second among the Titans to Harold Landry, who has three. Wake has made four tackles.
“The defensive staff kind of recognizes the situation and can kind of get him in there [as needed],” Vrabel said.
It remains to be seen if that will be the case this week.
