Tennessee Titans Snap Counts & Takeaways from Week 6 Loss to Baltimore Ravens
The Tennessee Titans got outclassed by a better team in their 24-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday and it may signal a change in philosophy for the team going forward. The snap counts could be an indicator of what's to come.
Offense
First, we have to discuss Malik Willis. Yes, Ryan Tannehill's injury spurred his entrance, but Willis(or rookie Will Levis) could see even more snaps going forward, Tannehill injury or not. Willis had appeared in previous games this year, but not to actually play when the game is on the line.
At 2-4 with some embarrassing performances on the ledger, it may be time to focus on the future of this team and that would include one of the young quarterbacks starting in 2024, not Tannehill.
Willis got 18 snaps on Sunday, he might see them all in Week 8.
The other name to mentioned here is Nicholas Petit-Frere. The second-year offensive tackle returned from suspension early in Week 5, but didn't see the active gameday roster until Week 6, still a week earlier than expected due to the NFL's midseason rules change the gambling punishments for players.
Petit-Frere replaced Andre Dillard at left tackle. Dillard has struggled all season and is clearly not the answer long-term. Petit-Frere may not be either, but inserting the younger player is another sign the Titans may start prioritizing their youth. Petit-Frere played 32 snaps after replacing Dillard.
Defense
Kristian Fulton has struggled at corner all year and in this game, Tre Avery entered in Fulton's spot for a portion of the game, playing 18 snaps. Worth noting, Fulton did return to the game, so it's possible the absence was injury related, but more likely a warning shot that no one is safe with the way this team is playing.
The Titans signed edge rusher Trevis Gipson before the season to add depth on the edge. So far, the Titans haven't gotten much production from their edge group and Gipson has flashed in those limited snaps. Frustrating to see him still getting less than ten snaps.
