Katie Sowers Becomes the NFL's First Woman to Coach in Super Bowl

Sowers is the latest example of why fellowships like this are so important

Katie Sowers, an offensive assistant for the 49ers, will become the first LGBTQ woman to coach in the Super Bowl. The 33-year-old Sowers has worked with the Niners for the last two seasons, and before that was with the Atlanta Falcons for four years. She began her career with the Niners in 2017 by way of the Bill Walsh Minority Fellowship, working with the wide receivers. Sowers is the latest example of why fellowships like this are so important. SI’s Amy Campbell says a win for Sowers is a win for all of us.
