Researchers are suggesting that had the Niners won the championship, their championship parade celebration would have attracted hundreds of thousands of fans leading to a larger spread of COVID-19.

Thousands of lives have been lost globally due to the spread of the coronavirus. According to California medical researchers, the San Francisco 49ers losing the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs may have saved lives. Researchers are suggesting that had the Niners won the championship, their championship parade celebration would have attracted hundreds of thousands of fans leading to a larger spread of COVID-19. According to experts “the coronavirus is a respiratory virus which spreads primarily through droplets generated when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose.” On March 19, California issued a strict stay at home order. As of Tuesday, there have been nearly 600,000 reported cases of the coronavirus in the United States with close to 24,000 deaths as a result of the pandemic.
