Jaguars select K'Lavon Chaisson with No. 20 pick in NFL Draft
The Jaguars selected edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson with the No. 20 pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. Chaisson was a highly decorated five-star recruit after a fantastic career at North Shore Senior High School in Houston, Texas. Closing his high school career with a bang, Jefferson had six tackles, five for a loss, and three sacks during the 2017 Under Armour All-America game.
Chaisson drew interest from a number of teams, including the Texas Longhorns and Florida Gators, prior to committing to LSU. Chaisson plays the run very aggressively, from both the weak and strong sides, and is a solid tackler who has a number of electric pass-rush moves. Impressive from Day 1 with the Tigers, Chaisson made the Freshman All-SEC team in 2017.
After suffering an ACL injury, during the Tigers' 2018 season opening win over Miami, Chaisson spent the rest of his sophomore year on injured reserve. Returning at full health, Chaisson racked up 60 tackles and 6.5 sacks during his final year at LSU. A monster along the defensive line, Chaisson (6-foot-3, 254 pounds) finished his career with 92 total tackles (19 for a loss) and 9.5 sacks. Chaisson earned 2019 All-SEC honors during the Tigers’ 2020 National Championship season.
Here’s why SI’s Kevin Hanson ranked Chaisson as the No. 17 overall player on his big board:
Displaying outstanding burst and bend around the edge, Chaisson flashes elite pass-rushing upside, but he has lacked consistent sack production. Returning from his torn ACL in 2018, the 20-year-old edge rusher gained momentum down the stretch with 4.5 sacks in his final four games.
2019 stats (Sophomore; LSU): 34 solo tackles, 60 total tackles, 6.5 sacks (13 games)
2018 stats (Sophomore; LSU): Played just one game due to an ACL injury.
2017 stats (Freshman; LSU): 9 solo tackles, 27 total tackles, 2 sacks (10 games)
