Washington Football Team Ends Cheerleading Program After More Than 50 Years

Is the rebranding of the Washington Football cheerleading squad a way to change the image of the organization?

After more than 50 years, the Washington Football Team has decided to end its cheerleading program replacing it with a co-ed dance team. The cheerleading program was founded in 1962 and a staple on the sidelines at FedEx Stadium but Washington’s president Jason Wright shared that the team wants to create halftime programs similar to those in the NBA. They've hired former NBA creative director Petra Pope as a senior advisor and she joins Sports Illustrated's Kaitlin O’Toole for insight on the new co-ed squad and the modernizing of the Washington Football Team.
