The NFC North division is all wrapped up by the Detroit Lions, but the Minnesota Vikings are technically still alive for a playoff spot. Those teams meet this weekend with Minnesota needing a victory along with some help from others around the league in order to back their way into the postseason.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions Prediction for Sunday's Game

We must start off our Vikings vs. Lions prediction by stating that Dan Campbell and the Lions have already publicly said that they’re playing their starters in this game, and playing to win. They don’t really have much to play for, but can we expect anything less from a Campbell-led team? With that being said, the Vikings are going to be hungry as ever, so the spread might be a tough market to decide on.

The game total is much easier, as it feels like it’s set way too low. When these teams met just a couple of weeks ago, there were 54 total points scored. There was potential for more too, with the Vikings turning it over in Lions territory to end the game. With the conclusion of Minnesota’s Week 17 game, they’ve now surrendered 27+ points in three straight showings. Detroit has been better than they were to begin the season, but still not great by any means.

There are playmakers all over the field on both offenses in this one – Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs just to name a few. Regardless of whether this is a game Detroit should care about or not, it’s obvious their approach is no different. With Minnesota also fighting for their playoff lives, we think points will be scored in bunches, making over 45.5 (-110 at FanDuel) our best Vikings vs. Lions prediction.

Player Prop Bets & Picks for Vikings vs. Lions Featuring Nick Mullens & Jahmyr Gibbs

In terms of Vikings vs. Lions player prop bets, we’ll first target Minnesota QB Nick Mullens. Mullens has been fairly average as a passer overall, but he has tossed for at least two touchdowns in two of his three starts this season, including against Detroit the first time around. Even in a spirited defensive effort in Week 17 against the Cowboys, Dak Prescott still threw two touchdowns against this Lions defense. Taking Mullens over 1.5 pass touchdowns (-120 at FanDuel) seems like a safe bet.

On the other side, expect Jahmyr Gibbs to stay busy out of the backfield. The rookie has now rushed for at least 54 yards in nine of his last 12 games in this campaign (80 against the Vikings in Week 16), and he looks to be getting more and more comfortable each and every week. Minnesota just allowed Aaron Jones to run wild last week (120 yards), so if that’s any indication of how this week could go, Gibbs may be in store for a big game. Gibbs over 51.5 rushing yards (-110 at FanDuel) is the second of our Vikings vs. Lions player prop bets.

Vikings QB in Week 18

As we already touched on, Nick Mullens is getting the nod for Minnesota’s 2023-2024 regular-season finale. Since Kirk Cousins went down, it’s either been Mullens, Joshua Dobbs or Jaren Hall behind center, which may be a big reason why the Vikings are in the position they’re in right now. Whether you have faith in Mullens or not, you’ll want to sign up at FanDuel ahead of the game to snag your exclusive $150 promotion using our Vikings vs. Lions prediction.
