ROUND 1. Jonah Williams OT, Alabama
Williams falling to pick 18 isn't as far fetched as it once was. I would say the athletic big man has a legit 50/50 shot of being on the board when the Vikings make their 1st round selection.
So what do I love about Williams? Not only is he a film room junkie and guy who is constantly looking to get better. But he is already a guy who can step in day one and make a huge impact on the Vikings offensive line. He has played both right and left tackle at Alabama, and even has the skill set to move inside if needed for a year or two.
Adding a guy like Williams gives the Vikings options along the offensive line, whether it is moving Reiff inside or Williams. Long story short, he is one of the best in the draft class, and gives the Vikings a huge upgrade along the o-line.
ROUND 2. Irv Smith JR TE, Alabama
This one comes down to being to damn good to pass on. Yes, tight end is a need, but round 2 might be a little early to go fishing for a position that isn't overly glaring. That said, Irv Smith has the talent to be a day 1 contributor in the passing game and if he is in fact on the board when the Vikings are up, talent might trump need.
Kyle Rudolph is no spring chicken and only has 1 year left on his contract, so this could also end up being a succession plan on life after Rudolph. Throughout his college career he has just continued to get better and better and has a very high ceiling. Would be a hell of a get for the Vikes in the 2nd round.
ROUND 3. Michael Jordan G/C, Ohio St.
I don't think anyone will be surprised if the Vikings double dip at offensive line in their first 3 picks. With this years crop, there is a real shot that some extremely talented big men could slide into rounds 3 and 4.
Jordan, like Williams, is another guy that gives the Vikings options. Jordan can play either guard or center, and play them at a high level. While I don't think Jordan would come in as a rookie and start, he would offer some much needed depth. Give this guy a year or so, and I think he competes for a starting spot.
ROUND 4. Sean Bunting CB, Central Michigan
An NFL Draft with the Vikings not taking a cornerback is like a grilled cheese without the cheese. It's not a matter of IF it's going to happen, but when.
Bunting is the perfect type of player for Zimmer to take under his wings. He is a cornerback with the size and tools you want, someone just needs to get him to put it all together. Give this guy a year or two and he could be an option to start in the NFL.
With Trae Waynes and Mackenzie Alexander hitting free agency after this year, they will need as many options as possible.
ROUND 6. Devine Ozigbo RB, Nebraska
With Latavius Murray opting to take his talents to New Orleans, the Vikings have a big ole hole when it comes to having that big bruising back. That is exactly what Ozigbo can offer.
The 5'11, 220 lb, 1,000 yard rusher not only knocks defenders on their ass, but he can also bust the big play. On top of his 1,000 yards, he had 23 receptions and a 7.0 avg per carry. The one year starter, still has a ways to go before he could be thought to carry a load, but he could offer that needed dozer type of guy year 1. He would be a great compliment to Dalvin Cook in the backfield.
ROUND 6. Daniel Wise DT, Kansas
The pain of losing Sheldon Richardson still hurts deep in my loins. But damn it, we as Vikings fans need to get past it and move on. They did bring back Shamar Stephen to take his place, and while he is solid vs. the run, he won't cause to much ruckus in the backfield.
I might be solo on this, but I think Wise is extremely underrated when it comes to the 2019 defensive tackle class. He needs to work on his technique, but he has the tools to make plays. He racked up 17 sacks, during his 4 years at Kansas and plays with a pissed off attitude which teams will love.
ROUND 7. Ryan Connelly LB, Wisconsin
The Vikings have already showed some interest in the Wisconsin linebacker. There is alot to love about Connelly, he is a former walk-on who worked his way up the ranks before becoming a full-time starter as a senior. He can play inside our outside, but would find his home inside with the Vikings.
The Minnesota native has great awareness and plays tough. While he might not ever be looked at as a starter, he could off the Vikings some much needed depth and has special teams demon written all over him.
ROUND 7. Terry Godwin WR, Georgia
The Vikings might have 2 of the best receivers in the game on their roster, but behind them the cupboard is bare. It would be a mild surprise if they waited until their last pick to look at the receiving position, but remember, they have a good amount of needs that need to be addressed.
Godwin has been a starter for the Bulldogs since his freshman year. While he has never really lit up the stat line, he was an extremely important part to their offense. He offers clean routes, ability to get yards after the catch and also has a pretty good set of hands on him.
As a 7th rounder, yes he would be a flier, but with unproven guys like Beebe and Zylstra he could have a legit shot at making the team. I think he'll find his home in the slot in the NFL. Worst case he could be a solid option to toss on the practice squad for a year and let him season a bit.
