Vikings Acquire Another '24 First-Rounder in Pre-Draft Trade With Texans
In a fascinating trade with Houston well in advance of the draft, the Vikings have landed another first-rounder that they could potentially use as ammunition to move up for a quarterback in April.
Here's the move, which was first reported by NFL Network:
Vikings trade:
- 2024 second-round pick (No. 42)
- 2025 second round-pick
- 2024 sixth-rounder (No. 188)
Texans trade:
- 2024 first-round pick (No. 23)
- 2024 seventh-rounder (No. 232)
So essentially, the Vikings are sending next year's second-rounder (and throwing in a late-round pick swap) to move up from 42 to 23 in this year's draft.
What this means is GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah almost certainly isn't done moving around the board. Sure, the Vikings could stay put at 11 and 23 and select two players, but that probably isn't why you make a move like this. This feels like Adofo-Mensah and Minnesota loading up to try to move up for a quarterback.
As the Vikings look to go get their future franchise quarterback next month, they now have two top-25 picks in this draft, as well as future first-rounders, that they could dangle in a trade. Are they looking to wow the Patriots with an offer to move all the way up to No. 3 and take Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels? They could also try to go up to 5, if they want J.J. McCarthy and are worried the Giants might take him at 6.
The Vikings no longer have any second-rounders in this draft or the next one, but that's the price you pay. This is a very interesting trade that adds even more intrigue to the upcoming draft.
What's Adofo-Mensah cooking?
