In what feels like a must-win game for both teams to remain competitive this season, the 1-4 Vikings are in Chicago to take on the 1-4 Bears at Soldier Field. The winner will have some life in the postseason hunt. The loser will occupy sole possession of last place in the NFC North, which may not be the worst thing if you're thinking about the 2024 NFL Draft order already.

The Vikings didn't expect to be in this position. Coming off a 13-win season and a division title last year, they've had a miserable start to the 2023 campaign, losing four of their first five games by one score. Fumbling issues and an inability to capitalize on opportunities have caused the Vikings to lose as many games already this season as they did all of the last year. A team that could easily be 3-2 instead finds itself on the ropes in Chicago — with the 49ers coming to Minneapolis next week.

Now the Vikings will play at least the next four games without their best player, superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who is on IR with a hamstring strain.

It's been a less surprising but still disappointing start to the season for the Bears, who won three games last season but hoped to take a big step forward this year. After an ugly four-game losing streak to begin the campaign, they finally got their first win of the season two Thursdays ago by thrashing the Commanders 40-20.

This should be an interesting one. Follow along below for live updates throughout the contest.

Final Score: Vikings 19, Bears 13

Live Updates

Fourth Quarter

0:00 — That's it. The Vikings kneeled out their second win of the year.

1:51 — Crisis averted? The Bears were driving with a chance to take the lead, but Bagent made a poor decision and under-threw a deep ball that was picked off by Byron Murphy Jr. — his first INT as a Viking. Chicago has all three timeouts left.

Vikings 19, Bears 13

7:46 — I may have spoken too soon. Bagent just led a nine-play, 77-yard touchdown drive. This is a six-point game again.

14:20 — The Bears punted the ball away after another lifeless offensive series with Bagent at quarterback. They do not look like a team that's going to threaten a two-score lead in this final quarter.

Third Quarter

Vikings 19, Bears 6

6:44 — Jordan Hicks just returned a fumble 42 yards for a defensive touchdown. Harrison Phillips brought pressure and Josh Metellus stripped the ball from Bears backup quarterback Tyson Bagent. Justin Fields has a hand injury and is out for the rest of the game.

9:49 — Both teams trade punts on their opening possessions of the third quarter. Danielle Hunter has two sacks today and eight this season.

Second Quarter

Vikings 12, Bears 6

0:12 — A touchdown! The Vikings drove 77 yards on eight plays and scored on a Kirk Cousins touchdown pass to Jordan Addison, the fourth in six career games for the rookie. The extra point was blocked, though. Minnesota gets the ball after halftime.

1:47 — And Justin Fields throws a pick right back to the Vikings. He was hit while he threw, and Jordan Hicks made the play. What a ballgame we have here.

2:53 — Kirk Cousins just threw a pick. Alexander Mattison picked up the blitz on third down, but not quite well enough, so Cousins' arm got hit as he threw. That's the league-leading 13th turnover on the season for the Vikings.

Vikings 6, Bears 6

3:18 — We have a field goal battle at Soldier Field. Cairo Santos just drilled a 53-yarder to tie this game up at 6 apiece.

Vikings 6, Bears 3

8:56 — Another possession ends in a long field goal for the Vikings, who haven't been able to get their running game going. Greg Joseph already has makes from 53 and 51 yards today.

Vikings 3, Bears 3

13:41 — The Bears had to settle for a short field goal. For some reason, they called consecutive passing plays near the goal line after running the ball well all drive.

First Quarter

0:00 — As the opening quarter comes to an end, the Bears are on the doorstep of scoring thanks to a highly successful running game.

Vikings 3, Bears 0

6:24 — On their first series without Justin Jefferson, the Vikings moved the ball enough to get on the board with a 53-yard Greg Joseph field goal.

11:11 — The Vikings sacked Justin Fields twice on the Bears' opening possession and forced a punt. That's a solid start.
