Vikings Bringing Back 'Winter Whiteout' Theme For Week 16 vs. Lions

The Vikings will have all-white uniforms and a specially painted field on Christmas Eve.

The Vikings are bringing back the "winter whiteout" theme for their Week 16 home game against the Detroit Lions, they announced on Wednesday. It was debuted last year against the Giants in a game the Vikings won on a 61-yard walkoff field goal by Greg Joseph.

This is the second straight year in which the Vikings are playing a Week 16 home game on Christmas Eve. This one has a chance to be a huge matchup, as the Lions currently boast an 8-2 record and sit 2.5 games ahead of the Vikings atop the NFC North.

The winter whiteout not only means Minnesota will be wearing white jerseys and pants, it also means U.S. Bank Stadium will have a special white-out paint job that includes white end zones and a white Norseman logo at midfield. The team is also encouraging all fans in attendance to come dressed in white to contribute to the theme's feel.

The Vikings have three home games remaining: This Monday night against the Bears, the Week 16 game against the Lions, and a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Packers the following week on New Year's Eve. They'll be breaking out their "Vikings classic" throwback uniforms for the second time ever this Monday against Chicago.

Four of Minnesota's final six games this year will come against NFC North foes. They're 2-0 in the division so far, having beaten the Bears and Packers on the road.
