Vikings Claim Cornerback John Reid Off Waivers From Falcons
The Vikings have added to their cornerback room by claiming former fourth-round pick John Reid off waivers from the Falcons, according to ESPN's Field Yates.
Reid was a four-year starter at Penn State, recording seven interceptions, 26 passes defended, and 9.5 tackles for loss in his college career. The 5'10", 187-pound corner posted an 8.41 RAS, highlighted by great scores in the short shuttle, broad jump, and bench press. He was selected 141st overall by the Texans.
As a rookie, Reid played 145 defensive snaps for Houston. He was traded to the Seahawks in 2021 and started two games for Seattle. In 2022, Reid signed with the Falcons' practice squad, then the Titans' active roster, and then returned to Atlanta's practice squad. He was waived by the Falcons on Wednesday.
For his career, Reid has appeared in 27 games with four starts for Houston, Seattle, and Tennessee, playing a total of 315 defensive snaps and 169 on special teams.
Now, the journeyman who turns 27 this month will look to make the Vikings' roster or at least earn a practice squad spot.
The cornerback depth chart is pretty open in Minnesota. Byron Murphy Jr. is the No. 1, followed by second-year players Andrew Booth Jr. and Akayleb Evans and rookie Mekhi Blackmon. After that, players like Joejuan Williams, Jay Ward, Kalon Barnes, Tay Gowan, and a handful of undrafted rookies are in the mix.
Reid could stick around if he's able to impress this offseason.
