Vikings to Honor Bud Grant With Jersey Patch, Helmet Sticker in 2023

The Vikings will have a sticker on their helmets all season long, honoring the greatest coach in franchise history.

The Vikings will honor Bud Grant, the greatest coach in the history of the franchise, in a variety of ways throughout the 2023 season. Grant, who coached the team for 18 seasons from 1967 to '85, passed away in March at age 95.

When they take the field at U.S. Bank Stadium against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the regular season opener on September 10th, the Vikings will be wearing a patch on their classic uniforms and a sticker on their helmets, both of which contain Grant's famous "Bud" signature. The throwback uniforms, which were unveiled last month, pay homage to great Grant-coached teams of the 1960s and '70s.

The jersey patches will only be worn in Week 1, but the helmet stickers will be worn all season long.

The Vikings will also announce "additional ways in which fans can participate in the celebration of Bud’s legacy" closer to the start of the regular season.

"As I said at the time we lost Bud earlier this year, no single individual more defined Minnesota sports and the Minnesota Vikings brand than Coach Grant, and it's impossible to describe the impact that he's had on the Vikings and the community," said Vikings owner and chairman Mark Wilf.

Grant was honored in a public celebration of life at U.S. Bank Stadium in May.
