Vikings Injury Updates: Oli Udoh, Christian Darrisaw, Marcus Davenport

It sounds like Udoh is going to be out for an extended period of time with a leg injury.

Head coach Kevin O'Connell provided some injury updates following the Vikings' 34-28 loss to the Eagles on Thursday night.

Oli Udoh

Unfortunately, it sounds like Udoh suffered a major knee injury early in the fourth quarter. He fell awkwardly while attempting to block Eagles edge rusher Josh Sweat, and dozens of teammates came out to show love to Udoh before he was carted off the field.

"Cannot get into the details on it, just a left leg injury," O'Connell said. "We're still evaluating it but it does not look good. Really, really unfortunate. Disappointed for him. We'll provide more details when we get more information on that."

Udoh was in at left tackle for Christian Darrisaw (more on him next). Veteran David Quessenberry finished out the game for the Vikings at that spot.

Christian Darrisaw

When the inactive player list came out 90 minutes before kickoff, as is required by the NFL, Darrisaw's name was not on it. He was active — but it turned out that he was actually a game-time decision. He didn't play a snap.

Five days earlier, Darrisaw left the Vikings' opener with an ankle injury before returning to play the entire second half. O'Connell said he tried to play on Thursday but aggravated his injury in warmups after the inactive list came out.

"Christian Darrisaw tried to go," O'Connell said. "Kind of aggravated that left ankle in warmups. We hoped to try to have him."

"It was past the 90-minute (cutoff)," O'Connell added. "We kind of went into it where he'd be a true game-time decision. Felt like with Quessenberry and Blake (Brandel) up, hopefully we'd be able to have really versatile guys behind those guys, with Oli obviously able to step in. (Darrisaw) just couldn't quite — I don't know if there was an actual play in warmups or something that happened, but the hope was he would be able to go and he just couldn't make it."

Darrisaw will now have nine full days to try to get healthy ahead of the Vikings' Week 3 game against the Chargers on the 24th.

Others

  • Marcus Davenport (ankle/foot) made his Vikings debut on Thursday night, but it didn't last long. He was on the field to start the team's first defensive series before spending the rest of the night on the sidelines. O'Connell said Davenport tried to go but his right foot gave him issues.
  • Josh Metellus (shoulder) left the game in the first half but was able to return. Jordan Hicks (lower leg) and Akayleb Evans (cramps) were also able to return to action after missing some time.
