Vikings' Justin Jefferson on Contract Status: 'Only Time Will Tell'
Superstar receiver Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings still have not agreed to a contract extension, despite Jefferson first becoming eligible for a new deal last offseason. Getting that contract done — and it's going to be record-breaking money for a wide receiver — has to be considered one of the top priorities for GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and the Vikings this spring.
In a new interview with Sirius XM's Adam Schein at Super Bowl radio row in Las Vegas, Jefferson commented on his contract status for the first time in a while. His words aren't outright concerning for Vikings fans, but they're not exactly reassuring, either.
"I wanna break the bank and I want to be a part of an organization that wants me and (wants) to really give me what I deserve," Jefferson said. "I feel like, eventually, the Vikings will do what they need to do to have me in the building, but I don't really know at this very moment. Only time will tell. I feel like I have the right people in my circle to negotiate and to do what's right."
Schein then asked Jefferson what might happen if he doesn't get a deal from Minnesota.
"I'm not really too sure at this very moment," Jefferson responded. "I definitely am grateful for what Minnesota has done for me. I definitely wouldn't be in this situation if they didn't pick me. With everything that has happened and everything I have (given) for the organization, of course I would want to stay. There's where I've been calling home ever since I got into the league. You know, it is what it is at the end of the day. I just want to play football."
Jefferson, the 2022 NFL offensive player of the year, finished with 1,074 yards in 2023 despite missing seven games and parts of two others. The consensus No. 1 wide receiver in football has an all-time record 5,899 receiving yards through his first four seasons.
