Vikings OC Wes Phillips Arrested For Misdemeanor DWI
Vikings offensive coordinator Wes Phillips was arrested on Friday night for misdemeanor driving while intoxicated (DWI), according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert. He has been released on bond and will accompany the team to Las Vegas for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
The team released the following statement on Saturday (via Seifert):
"Wes immediately notified the team following his arrest last night. This morning we contacted the NFL, and after internal discussion, made the decision Wes will travel with the team to Las Vegas this afternoon. We will continue to gather information regarding the incident and have comment at the appropriate time."
Per Tom Pelissero, Phillips "was arrested at approximately 10 p.m. Friday on a misdemeanor DUI charge, blowing 0.08 after being pulled over by the Minnesota State Patrol."
Phillips, 44, is in his second season as the Vikings' offensive coordinator under head coach and play-caller Kevin O'Connell. He's the son of former NFL head coach Wade Phillips and the grandson of former NFL head coach Bum Phillips. Prior to joining the Vikings, Wes was the tight ends coach for the Rams for three seasons, working alongside O'Connell for two of those. The two also overlapped for a couple years in Washington when Phillips was the TEs coach there and O'Connell was the quarterbacks coach.
Phillips began his NFL career as an assistant coach for the Cowboys from from 2007-13. Before that, he coached in multiple college programs.
The 6-6 Vikings are set to take on the 5-7 Raiders at Allegiant Stadium at 3:05 p.m. central time on Sunday — and it sounds like there will be no changes to Phillips' typical gameday responsibilities as OC.
