Vikings Sign CB Jameson Houston, Waive OT Chim Okorafor
The Vikings have signed cornerback Jameson Houston and waived offensive tackle Chim Okorafor.
Houston, 27, is a journeyman corner who went undrafted out of Baylor in 2020. In just four years, he has spent time with six NFL teams — the Browns, Panthers, Eagles, Jaguars, Seahawks, and now Vikings — as well as the USFL's Michigan Panthers and the XFL's Vegas Vipers and San Antonio Brahmas.
Houston appeared in three games with the Eagles in 2020, his only NFL regular season action. He had two interceptions for Michigan in the 2022 USFL season. A 5'11", 200-pound cornerback, Houston will presumably get a chance to play in the Vikings' preseason finale against the Cardinals at U.S. Bank Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Rosters will be cut from 90 down to 53 on Tuesday. It's a quick turnaround for Houston, who may just be needed as an extra body for Saturday's game. However, if he impresses quickly, he could be up for consideration when the Vikings assemble their 16-player practice squad.
Okorafor was signed by the Vikings less than two weeks ago. The 6'6", 320-pound tackle from NAIA Benedictine College in Kansas was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Eagles this year. He didn't play any snaps in last week's preseason game against the Titans.
The Vikings have not been shy about churning through players at the bottom of their 90-man offseason roster to allow for maximum competition.
