You just knew Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was going to trade down at some point. Adofo-Mensah, who made a league-high six trades during his first draft last year, has now made his first deal of the 2023 draft.

After starting out with five selections, the Vikings traded the No. 87 overall pick on Friday night to the 49ers for the 102nd pick — the last pick in the third round — and two Day 3 selections. They picked up a fifth-rounder (No. 164) and a seventh (No. 222) on Saturday.

By the old-fashioned Jimmy Johnson trade value chart, the Vikings lost this deal, sending 155 points of value for 117.7. But that chart is rather outdated. The Rich Hill value chart, which is a bit more modern, says the Vikings gave up 48 points and got back 45.

However, an even more modern chart, the Fitzgerald-Spielberger version, has this as an overwhelming win for the Vikings.

By that chart, the Vikings essentially picked up the value of a fourth-round pick in this trade. All you really need to know is that by moving back 15 spots in the third round, the Vikings were able to add two more picks on Saturday.

We'll see if the Vikings end up making the pick at 102 to wrap up Friday night. They could potentially trade down again.

If they do make the pick, there are plenty of interesting defensive players still available.
