What Brock Purdy is Aiming to Improve on During the Offseason
One of the most exciting things for the San Francisco 49ers this year is quarterback Brock Purdy.
This offseason Purdy will actually get a chance to work on himself instead of spending the entire period recovering and rehabbing an injury. It is what makes his 2023 season so impressive. He didn't spend any time improving himself and he still was an MVP candidate.
Now that he can actually enjoy this offseason and spend time working on his weaknesses, he instantly becomes one of, if not the most, exciting aspect of the 49ers going into 2024. On Monday, Purdy shared what it is that he is aiming to improve on during this offseason.
"I think obviously in the offseason for me, you want to add some muscle and stuff," said Purdy. "Just because it's a long season and realistically it can sort of wear off over time and stuff. So yeah, get strong, look good, feel good, in terms of the explosiveness with both my arm and my legs.
"And then I think I've said it before, but mobility, making sure that I'm staying mobile and flexible and whatnot. So those are the things that I sort of hone into this time of year. And obviously come season, that's what matters is being in the best shape possible for what is a marathon. To be able to run, make plays, throw the ball, stay in shape. I'm preparing for that right now.”
Maintaining and improving his strength and mobility is the perfect formula for improvement for Purdy. This can allow him to make more off-script plays and have more success at them. He was already pretty impressive with them as it was, so this can only help him.
Not to mention that Kyle Shanahan could finally start getting Purdy on rollouts. That is one thing that was curious about the 49ers last year. Shanahan hardly, if ever, got Purdy out on the move. It made zero sense to not do so since he finally has a quarterback with some athleticism.
That should be one change in the 49ers offense next year, especially if Purdy will get stronger in that area. I'd imagine physical traits aren't the only thing that Purdy will look to improve on, but it is enough for him going into training camp so that Shanahan can experiment with his improvements.
