The New York Rangers' struggling offense exploded in an 8-4 win over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night, but the big story was Henrik Lundqvist becoming the winningest goalie in the 90-plus year history of the storied franchise with his 302nd career win.
Not bad for a seventh-round draft pick.
The 32-year-old Lundqvist, who is in his ninth year with the Rangers, broke Mike Richter's mark that was set during the U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer's 14-year tenure with New York (1989-2003).
Lundqvist discussed the honor of reaching this milestone in his post-game press conference Tuesday night. "I don't know what to say, it's been a great ride so far," he said.
After the game, Richter offered his praise of Lundqvist and his thoughts on having the record reset.
