The Maple Leafs avoided arbitration with Cody Franson by agreeing with him on a one-year deal Monday, only hours before the scheduled arbitration hearing, the team announced. According to multiple reports, the deal is worth $3.3 million.
Franson was a restricted free agent. His new contract allows him to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

A 26-year-old defenseman, Franson has played three seasons in Toronto since being traded there from Nashville in July 2011.
