Top Line: The NHL needs this rule; Parise's courage; more links
An annotated guide to today's must-read hockey stories:
•Fluto Shinzawa discusses a fascinating rule experiment, Washington's second-line woes, a Hall of Famer's take on the modern game and a promising young winger in Montreal in his always entertaining Sunday notes column.
•Zach Parise and his family are learning to embrace the good times while his father J.P. battles cancer. Fantastic work here by Mike Russo.
PTO hopefuls; most frustrating Bruin; more training camp notes
•Larry Brooks has had enough of the so-called advanced stats and rips the NHL for not providing truly modern information. Not sure how many fans would take advantage if the data was hidden behind a pay wall as Brooks suggests, but cost shouldn't end the conversation. =”http:>
•The Blues finally came to an agreement with RFA Jaden Schwartz on Saturday, signing the star forward to a new two-year deal worth $4.7 million. That's considerably less than what he was holding out for, but with no real leverage this was the best he was going to get. Now it's on Schwartz to make up for the 10 days of camp he missed. That won't be easy.=”http:>
•Detroit GM Ken Holland says the injury Gustav Nyquist suffered Saturday night isn't serious, but it was just last week that Wings fans heard the same about Pavel Datsyuk, right?

•Could the Winnipeg Jets have the answer to their goaltending problems in UMass-Lowell grad Connor Hellyebuck?
•Beau Bennett could be out for as long as six weeks with his latest injury. Bad news for the brittle winger, but a great opportunity for one of Pittsburgh's top prospects.
•Following up on yesterday's brilliant gag, the Lightning have revealed their real new third jersey. It's okay, but I kinda miss the palm trees.
•Despite entering just his second full season in the NHL, Chris Kreider has emerged to fill a leadership void on the Rangers.
•And finally, a reminder that this is the preseason for everybody...even the trainers.
