Los Angeles Kings raise Stanley Cup banner to open 2014-15 season

The Los Angeles Kings raised their 2014 Stanley Cup banner in grand style before their home opener vs. the Sharks.

It has been 117 days since the Kings raised the Stanley Cup, and they got to celebrate one last time before Wednesday night's opener against the Sharks.

"Kings fans, are you ready to see that Stanley Cup banner raised again?" longtime team broadcaster Bob Miller asked a continually cheering crowd.

There were plenty of notable guests on hand for the event, including franchise greats Rogie Vachon, Marcel Dionne and Luc Robitaille.

Robitaille, now the president of business operations for Los Angeles, pumped up the crowd with a speech of his own before Vachon and Dionne handed the banner to captain Dustin Brown, assistant Anze Kopitar and Matt Greene, who skated it across the ice to be raised into the rafters. 

"I think we can all agree it was some of the greatest hockey we've ever seen," Robitaille said while sporting some of the team's new bling. "I think we showed everyone Los Angeles is the greatest hockey city in the world."
