UPDATE: Reto Barra was injured during a in-goal collision with Ottawa Senators center Kyle Turris just three minutes into the first period of Thursday night's Avalanche game. He remained down on the ice for roughly a minute before skating off under his own power. Pickard, now the Avalanche's only available goalie, is tending the net for Colorado. As of midway through the second period Pickard has allowed two goals on 15 shots.

It is believed Varlamov injured his groin during Tuesday night's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and then tweaked the injury some time again shortly thereafter.

Varlamov was a finalist for the Vezina Trophy last year and was an NHL second-team All-Star. He won 41 games out of the 64 he played in 2013, and sported a 2.41 goals against average.
