As the tire fire that is the Edmonton Oilers rages on, their AHL affiliate is going through a worse ordeal. 

The Oklahoma City Barons will be shutting down at the end of this season because Edmonton will not be renewing their affiliation, according to the Barons. The team struggled to fill seats at the Cox Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with an average attendance of 3,219. The league average is 4,962. 

They have been the farm team for the Oilers since the 2010-2011 season. 

The announcement came three days after Edmonton fired head coach Dallas Eakins and named Todd Nelson, coach of the Barons, in the interim. 

The Oilers haven't announced who their next affiliate will be.
