The three men who threw jerseys onto the ice at Monday night's Toronto Maple Leafs game have been banned from Air Canada Centre for one year and ticketed for provincial offense for engaging in prohibited activity, Toronto policeannounced on Tuesday.

The charge is non-criminal. The fans were removed from the arena and banned from all Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment properties for a year.

MUIR: Better ways for Maple Leafs fans to protest than by tossing jerseys

The Maple Leafs lost the game 4-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes, falling to 22-22-3 on the season.

Following the game, Toronto forward Phil Kessel responded to those who threw their jerseys.

"We don’t appreciate that, obviously," Kessel said. "We’re trying. I don’t know if people see that, but we are trying. We can’t find it right now."

The Maple Leafs don't return home again until Jan. 29, when they take on the Arizona Coyotes.
